Welcome to the new Snell SA2025 homologation for helmets, which started nationwide on October 1, 2025. Many racers had been waiting for this day to shop for new helmets. Below are some of the changes on the certification, which brands and models are in stock, as well as some opportunities for discounted helmets left from the now old SA2020.
For SA2025, a more demanding test protocol has been introduced for helmet manufacturers who wish to comply with the standard. New acceleration limits and impact velocities have been selected for SA2025. Peak G of 275 assures compatibility with another important international standard for helmet safety, FIA 8859-2024, which is usually required for racing in Europe and all over the world.
If your current helmet is SA2015, technically it expires by the end of 2025, and you'll need to buy a current homogolated helmet. PCA is allowing SA15 helmets through March 31, 2026, but please check with your local region or sanctioning body to confirm compliance. SA2020 helmets are good throughthe end of 2030, but always ensure it's still in perfect condition. If not, remember your head is priceless and saving on good equipment to protect it seems to be the wrong choice.
Out of the top 10 helmet brands in the market, only 4 are ready for the homologation change - Stilo, Bell, Zamp and RaceQuip. Some brands are slightly late, as per latest updates, and we should start seeing some more Roux, Schuberth and Simpson helmets arriving by November or December. In Bell's case, expect some of their fiberglass options, like the popular M8 and K1 to arrive by January forward. We will update as we get better estimates.
If your preferred brand is not mentioned above, such as Arai, G-Force or HJC, you will have to be patient and wait for these updated helmets to show up, or you will have to switch to a new brand. We can't confirm the arrival date for these late brands, but don't expect anything before March or even Summer 2026. Tough one, we know!
Last, don't expect massive discounts on SA2020 helmets, as we have seen in past homologation changes. The discounted prices now should stay until these models are sold out. Due to the delays mentioned above, some brands are going to keep selling their old models until the middle of next year, like Arai, and their prices are not going to be discounted at all. Furthermore, the whole market, from manufacturer to retailer, did better planning to not overproduce and stock helmets towards the end of the cycle, therefore the offer is limited.
